One more obsession....

to add to the growing collection of crafty things I like to do... Weaving!Over a year ago I took a 4 shaft, 48 inch floor loom off my Aunt's hands, but it sat collecting dust for a long time because I couldn't work out how to warp the damn thing! But after a few lovely days spent with 82 year old Aunt Isabel, I'm now a fully-fledged weaving addict. So far I've churned out a sample piece (which isn't really much to look at) and 2 scarves in tabby weave. This pink one is now off the loom and 'blocking' at the moment (Is there a weaving term for blocking?).The blue one was the first I did and has many (ahem.. MANY) imperfections, but it's pretty cool all the same. Excuse the dodgy sell portrait, it was the best I could do to show the finished object. So expect to hear me sometimes ramble about warps and wefts, dpi's and epi's, heddles and harnesses, sheds and shafts and most excitingly sleying the reed! (although I'm still not sure what sleying is and why the poor reed deserves it!)

I'm not going to try weaving until my mortgage is paid, I think! I love the scarf (I had to fix it up on my computer to see it well... lol) Is it a stiff sort of fabric or is it just that photo? Looks really nice :)

Ooo! Lovely! I was offered a small loom last year but declined. I really don't need any more crafts in my crowded life! LOL

Lucky you Sam! (and good on you for dusting that loom off). I've always admired woven fabric, but nuh-uh ain't going there.. like you said it's another obsession.
